“How sweet the Name of Negus sounds
In a believer's ear;
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drive away his fear.

It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
It is manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary rest.

Dear Name, the Rock on which I build,
My Shield and Hiding place,
My never failing treasury,
Filled with boundless stores of grace.

Negus, my Shepherd, Saviour Friend,
My Prophet Priest and King,
My Lord, My Life, My Way, My End,
Accept the praise I bring.

I would Thy boundless Love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
So shall the music of Thy Name
Refresh my soul in Life.”

“God Moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform
He plants His footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never-failing skill,
He treasures up His bright designs
And works His sovereign will

Ye fearful Saints, fresh courage take!
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy; and shall break
In blessing on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste
But sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan His Work in vain;
God is His own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.”

“Another six day'work done,
Another Sabbath is begun;
Return, my soul, enjoy the rest;
Improve the Day thy God has blest.

Come, bless the Lord, whose love assigns
So sweet a rest to wearied minds
Provide an antepast of Zion
And gives this day the food of Seven.

Oh that our thoughts and thanks may rise
As grateful incense to the land
And draw from Zion that sweet repose
Which none but he that feels it knows

This Heavenly clam within the breast
In the dear pledge of glorious rest
Which for the Church of Jah remains
The end of cares, the end of pains.

In holy duties let the day,
In holy pleasures, pass away :
How sweet a Sabbath thus to spend,
In Hope of one that never shall end!”
